Counting down the days to Fleetcon 2016?

This year will mark the 40th Anniversary for Fleetcon and will be held September 12-15, 2016 at the Embassy Suites Conference Center in Frisco, Texas.  As always, Fleetcon is the education event for all things fleet! This annual event combines education, networking, and introductions to new technologies, innovations and fleet solutions. Attendees flock countrywide for the educational seminars and to have the opportunity to gain comprehensive insight into the latest technologies, innovations, and trends that affect their industries.

Let’s not forget about the Exhibits & Vendor Show! Held Tuesday and Wednesday, the 13th and 14th, this is your chance to see first-hand and explore the future of your fleet through the innovative exhibits. Each exhibitor manufactures, distributes, or supplies industry products and/or services to fleet organizations around the country. All of them are experts in their field and willing to share their innovations to help you reach your fleet potential. This is a great opportunity to get hands on with vehicles, equipment, and tools that will improve fleet operations. This is also a chance to develop your network and enjoy face-to-face conversations with the vendors and suppliers.

These exhibits promise not to disappoint, so make your way to Frisco, Texas and expand your horizons!

Unfortunately, due to other commitments, Fleetwest will not be an exhibitor this year. Fleetwest looks forward to these events and the ability to share our innovative products and network with fleet professionals. Keep your eyes out for us next year though.

Fleetwest provides fleet solutions to:
  • Lowering cost of ownership - transferable vs. tradition bolt-on service bodies. Load'N'Go utility bodies will lower ownership costs by providing flexibility, reducing technician downtime, and increasing resale value.
  • Improving fleet sufficiency - transferable service bodies are more sufficient because they can easily be moved from one pickup truck to another in minutes, fully loaded. Fewer pickup trucks are needed within a fleet and work trucks are more customizable with Load'N'Go and CTB service bodies.
  • Technology advancements - CTB service bodies are made of an innovative lightweight, fiberglass composite that is rugged and lowers fuel costs. Load'N'Go service bodies are powder-coated which is the latest technology for quality service body advancement. The powder coating process creates a more durable, aesthetically pleasing fleet.

And then there was one…

Full-size pickup trucks usually carry the reputation as “indestructible”, mostly due to their stature.  Well, size doesn’t always mean that they are safe. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) challenged this theory in a round of crash-tests. The IIHS put extended-cab and crew-cab versions of the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, Ram 1500, and Toyota Tundra through its full battery of tests. Of the seven vehicles tested, Ford was the only model to pass the small-overlap crash test earning the “good” rating that is required to obtain the Top Safety Pick award.

The crew-cab and extended-cab versions of the Ram 1500, as well as the crew-cab Toyota Tundra and Chevrolet Silverado, earned a “marginal” rating in the small-overlap test. Fairing slightly better were the extended-cab versions of the Tundra and the General Motors pickups gaining an “acceptable” rating. The IIHS reported that all of these models allowed for a substantial breach into the passenger area, particularly in the driver’s foot well.  “Drivers in these pickups would need help freeing their legs from the wreckage following a small-overlap crash,” said IIHS Vehicle Research Center vice president Raul Arbelaez in a statement.

F-150 Crew vs. Extended Cab 2015 IIHS crash test
The IIHS decided to test the two different body styles this year due to the significant structural counter measure discrepancies found between the crew and the extended-cab in the 2015 Ford F-150 last year.  In 2015, the crew-cab models received a “good” rating, while the extended-cab models received a “marginal”. Ford has since fitted additional structure to all versions of the F-150 to ensure a passing rating all around.  It only seems likely that the other companies will soon follow suit with similar structural changes to improve their performance on these IIHS tests. Ford F-150 Safety Recall

Ford Emblem
Ford has issued a safety recall for 2011-2012 Ford F-150s due to a potential issue with the output speed sensor on the transmission lead frame. Ford says the transmission controls could force a temporary downshift into first gear under certain conditions. The recall notice goes on to say that depending on the speed of the vehicle during the downshift, the driver could experience an abrupt reduction in speed that could cause the rear tires to slide or lock up. A loss of vehicle control, which increases the risk of a crash, could occur under these circumstances.

Ford is aware of three reports of accidents with no injuries related to this situation. There are around 202,000 vehicles affected by the transmission recall that includes the 2012 Ford Expedition, Ford Mustang and the Lincoln Navigator.

These vehicles are equipped with a 6R80 transmission and include certain 2011-2012 Ford F-150 vehicles built at the Dearborn Assembly Plant and the Kansas City Assembly Plant from August 19, 2011 through March 9, 2012. As well as, 2012 Ford Expeditions built at the Kentucky Truck Plant from August 19, 2011 through December 19, 2011; Ford Mustangs built at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant from August 19, 2011 through February 21, 2012; and Lincoln Navigators built at the Kentucky Truck Plant from August 19, 2011 through December 17, 2011.

If you feel you may be affected by this recall, vehicle owners can call Ford at 866-436-7332 for more information; or go to Cars.com to find your local dealer for service. Dealers will inspect the powertrain control module for diagnostic trouble codes related to the issue. If no trouble codes are present, an update in the powertrain control module software will be provided to eliminate the condition. In addition, Ford will provide a one-time replacement of the lead frame at no charge within 10 years or 150,000 miles from the warranty start date.  If the trouble codes are present, then dealers will update the software needed and replace the lead frame at no cost to the customer.

If your work truck is a F-150 affected by this recall and you have a Fleetwest transferable truck body, there is no need to worry about technician downtime during repairs. Simply transfer your work truck body out of the F-150 and into another truck bed and in a matter of minutes your technician is back to work. Fleetwest has the innovative solutions to optimize your fleets’ evolution.

Accessories that optimize service body space and make the job easier can take a work truck from good to great. The composite truck body, CTB or Durashell, by Fleetwest can be equipped with a long list of options for that ideal work truck. A few examples are:

·         70 or 100 percent extension, 1000 lb. capacity aluminum slides make accessing supplies easy and painless
·         Cabinets and shelving with side access provide organized storage to keep track of inventory
·         Dividers and storage bins in various sizes to help with proper tool storage
·         Additional interior and exterior LED lighting for convenience and safety
·         Low profile, hydraulic ladder racks for easy accessibility

Driving a work truck can make getting into parking structures difficult. Fleetwest tackled that solution with a ladder rack that does not compromise storage space. The low-profile ladder rack is the first integrated ergonomic ladder rack of its kind. The hydraulic double-drop down ladder rack is 8" shorter and 60 lbs. lighter than traditional work truck ladder racks. Drivers will have improved fuel economy because of the lighter weight and better aerodynamics. Technicians also benefit from the convenience of a low-profile work truck that can drive into parking garages, car washes, and drive-thru restaurants.
