Tax deduction...you still have time!

With 2018 creeping up on us, let’s talk about tax deductions. Before you know it 2017 will come to an end and it’s not too late to take advantage of the Section 179 tax deduction. This deduction is good on new and used equipment financed/purchased and put into service by 12/31/2017.

What is the Section 179 Deduction?

Basically, the Section 179 deduction is an incentive created by the U.S. Government for small businesses to invest in themselves, although large businesses can benefit as well. It allows businesses to deduct the full purchase price, of qualifying equipment, from your gross income. The total amount available for write off is $500,000 on a spending cap of $2,000,000 in equipment purchases made in 2017.

Here is an example of how Section 179 works:

To find out all the ins and outs of Section 179 and the answers to all your questions, visit the official website at www.section179.org. There is also a free calculator to give you an estimate of how much money you can save. See the handy Section 179 Calculator that's fully updated for 2017, and includes any/all increases from any newly enacted PATH Act.
Many businesses are finding Section 179 Qualified Financing to be an attractive option in 2017, especially since the year-end increases don't leave much time for action. Please apply today.

Keep in mind the Section 179 Deduction can be applied to purchases on any capital equipment like the Service Truck Bodies from Fleetwest. To see the complete Fleetwest Line visit our website at www.Fleetwest.net and get a quote today.

Celebrating 100 Years of Chevy Trucks

The 2018 Model Trucks is a huge milestone for Chevy. It marks the Centennial for the production of the Chevrolet truck. It no doubt that Chevy is one of the most recognizable brands in the world after one hundred years and more than 85 million trucks. Chevrolet is celebrating their truck centennial by honoring the owners who have made Chevy Trucks a part of their lives. They kicked off with a 100 day long celebration that started September 28th at the State Fair of Texas and will conclude with a Chevy Truck Centennial Celebration event on December 16 at the Texas Motor Speedway.

You can read more about the Centennial Celebration and the new Special Editions here. Examples of how they are celebrating the centennial:
  •  New 2018 Silverado and Colorado Centennial Special Editions
  •  National rollout of the Chevy Truck Legends program
  •  Branded merchandise featuring Chevy heritage bowtie
  •  Chevy Trucks Centennial Celebration on Dec. 16, 2017
Since 1918, Chevrolet Trucks has focused on making the best of the best to meet every customer’s needs. A century later and they are still the only manufacturer to offer customers a three-truck portfolio --the Colorado, Silverado and Silverado HD-- as well as a full line of special editions to fit their needs and style.

Here at Fleetwest we have two Chevy Trucks that we use everyday. They make amazing work trucks. W, our 2006 Silverado HD, hauls around our 20 ft. trailer with a Load'N'Go service body in the back and three bodies on the trailer; all with 250,000 miles and still going! You can check him out at chevytrucklegends.com. Also, his 2011 younger brother pulls his weight around here too.

Time to Winterize!!

Fiberglass Model 335 by Fleetwest

Now that the temperatures are cooling down, it's time to think about your winter maintenance. Routine truck maintenance is always an important process to keep trucks in working order. Not only does it reduce the risk of potential mechanical failures, there are additional benefits such as increased longevity, resale value and improved fuel economy. There are many technologies and techniques for fleet maintenance that can help increase fuel efficiency up to 10%.

Here are some tips that can help you save this winter:
  • Make sure that your truck’s tires have adequate thread depth and air pressure. Keeping tires properly inflated alone can increase gas mileage by 3%
  • Regularly replace clogged air filters
  • Park in warmer areas to increase the initial temperature of your pickup’s engine
  • Replace old batteries-most last three to five years (less in extreme heat or cold)
  • Use the recommended grade of motor oil
  • Combine trips whenever possible to avoid driving with a cold engine
  • Remove accessories that increase wind resistance-winter weather may require some vehicle modifications
  • Try a more efficient vehicle. ½ ton pickups allow greater opportunity for fuel savings and efficiency.

Don't forget about safety either; alter the way you drive to be safer on the road as well. Applying all these techniques in addition to installing a transferable truck body by Fleetwest, will offer remarkable savings and allow more room for the optimization of your fleet!

Fleetwest has many options for ½ ton pickup truck configurations with lightweight fiberglass composite and steel models that are 100% transferable. These service bodies require a no holes drilled installation and are available with many options that make it possible to efficiently store tools and equipment all the while cutting back on fuel costs and increasing resale value!

For more information on the transferable service bodies by Fleetwest visit our website www.Fleetwest.net or call Toll Free in the U.S. at (866) 497 – 7200.

Customize it!

Finding a truck to fit your inner personality is easier today than it was in the yester-years. It is now more popular than ever to get a customized truck straight from the dealerships with special edition pickups available from all the major manufacturers. Many truck owners in the past would drive a truck off the dealership lot and then start the painstaking customization process, piece by piece. Now days, you can walk into any dealership and every truck looks custom, even if it’s the same truck, because of the options available to you the customer. Everything cosmetic with options like custom rims, grilles, emblems, paint jobs, etc. to function such as cab size, tow packages, side steps, bed liners, lights…and the list goes on and on! Take for example the Sublime Green Limited Edition Dodge Ram 1500.

https://www.ramtrucks.com/limited-editions/1500/sublime-green/index.html
2017 Ram 1500 Sublime Green-Limited Edition photo courtesy of  www.ramtrucks.com
The same process can be done with your work pickup truck. You can start with the truck you have or start shopping for a brand new truck and Fleetwest can help you build a work truck that suits you and your company needs. Choose a Load’N’Go model and then start adding your options, such as:
  • Ladder or material racks
  • Slide out trays
  • Adjustable shelving
  • Drawer dividers
  • Vice Mounts & Tool Holders

The customizing doesn’t have to stop there, either. The service bodies all come to you white powder coated, the perfect canvas for your creation to paint or even wrap it. One of my favorite examples is "Big Red" that Pro Pickup Magazine customized a Fleetwest Load'N'Go Powerbody for a give away back in 2013.

And don’t forget that no holes are drilled to install the Fleetwest service body models making them fully transferable, even fully loaded, from one truck bed to another.  Call Fleetwest today toll-free in the U.S. at (866) 497-7200 and create your own limited edition.

Forward Thinking...

Fleet and self-employed technicians alike depend on their vehicles to get the job done every day. Accidents, technician time off, work truck maintenance and repairs result in costly downtime; simply put, there is no good time for downtime. Downtime cost is an important factor to consider when running a business or fleet. Fleet managers have to foresee these problems and have a prepared strategy. Preventative measures can be taken to avoid downtime and to handle acquired costs. The best way to lower or eliminate downtime costs is preparing for the unexpected…

Enter Fleetwest with alternative service vehicle solutions. When a pickup truck is in the shop for maintenance or an accident occurs, Fleetwest service bodies are 100% transferable and able to be moved from the damaged pickup truck onto another truck in minutes, fully loaded. Continuing to operate a work truck depends on the condition of the pickup with traditional bolt-on bodies or a van. This means that an individual or company continues to incur expenses until the vehicle is repaired. When a vehicle and its driver aren’t working, there is a considerable financial loss per hour. These costs can be controlled with a transferable truck body because it is not dependable on the condition of the vehicle.

The steel and fiberglass service bodies by Fleetwest are installed with the use of lifting jacks, forklift or a crane and with no holes drilled so there is no permanent damage done to the pickup truck or service body. Your technician can continue his service calls with his personal service body, tools and equipment until his vehicle is repaired and then the service body can be transferred back again, fully loaded. Problem solved!

Gas or Diesel? The Age Old Question

The age-old question of “is a gas or diesel truck better”, always comes up when it’s time to purchase a new truck. Since there is no right or wrong answer to this question, there are still pros and cons to consider. It really comes down to which is the best fit for your business or fleet’s needs.

Recent advancements on gasoline engines, such as direct injection and turbocharging, have bridged that gap on better fuel economy, as well as power, between gas and diesel fueled vehicles. Whereas diesel fuel used to cost less than gas in the past, that is not so much the case any longer. It’s seems to have reversed gears with diesel costing more than gas does. According to motorist.org, the price increase is due to the addition refining to make ultra-low sulfur diesel now required to be legal to use in modern diesel powered vehicles (including heavy trucks). Diesel engines may still have the edge on mileage, but it is not as it was before, also due to the emissions controls and the ultra-low sulfur fuel.

The cost of a diesel truck is an average of $5,000+ more than its gas-powered counterparts. This is also not even considering the costs required to maintain diesel engines. However, diesel trucks generally do offer better resale value; which is a huge plus if you are leasing your truck.

Now, when it comes to power, there is no denying that diesel engines have more torque to give them the edge here. This is an advantage especially if using the truck for extensive towing or heavy duty hauling. These points and more are covered by the guys at TFLtruck.com. Check out this video
Heavy Duty Gas or Diesel? Which Truck is Best For You?

Whether you choose a diesel or gas powered truck, any of the Fleetwest service bodies will help to complete the ideal work truck. Fleetwest has a variety of steel and fiberglass service bodies that are a universal fit in most full size truck beds. These bodies will also help contribute with the resale value because of the no holes drilled installation. All service bodies are 100% transferable from one pickup truck bed to another even fully loaded. The Load'N'Go Security Top even has a flip top, fully removable, allowing the ability to adjust for larger load items.

What Is The Lifecycle Of Your Fleet?

When should we replace our vehicles? This is an important question for any business owner or fleet manager. Service vehicles are your company assets and may need some long needed maintenance to extend its longevity, if not replacement. Maybe they lost their shine, are showing their age or just look tired. If it looks like they need some outer TLC, they probably need some servicing on the inside as well.

How has your vehicle been performing? Take into consideration your vehicles performance history. Think of it like a health check for your fleet. It's important to review your vehicles expenditures. If you feel your maintenance costs are on the climb, you may consider doing a cost analysis. Lifecycle cost analysis is the key to optimal timing for vehicle replacement in fleets.

According to Work Truck the following are recommendations on what to review:
  • Interest cost for capital expenditures
  • Inflation rate for adjusting lifecycle maintenance and operating costs
  • Vehicle depreciation rate
  • Purchase cost of vehicle
  • Estimated maintenance and operating costs

Load'N'Go Security Top by Fleetwest

Fleetwest can add years to the lifecycle of your service vehicle with a transferable service body. All of the units can be transferred off a retired pickup and placed into another pickup truck with a no-holes drilled installation. This creates a higher resell value for the pickup truck and your service body making it a huge asset to any fleet!

Transferable How?

Fleetwest is an innovative fleet solutions company specializing in transferable service bodies for pickup trucks. They offer both fiberglass composite and steel constructed transferable service bodies for standard pickup trucks. Fleetwest service bodies are designed to outlast multiple trucks and be a versatile solution through a universal truck fit design. A no holes drilled installation allows it to transfer from one truck to another in minutes. There are three ways you can transfer the service bodies on/off:

  • Forklift
  • Lifting Jacks
  • Crane

The Load’N’Go steel service body has forklift tunnels built into every model and can be transferred from truck to truck while fully loaded. This saves valuable man hours and there is no downtime on the job site hunting for tools in a borrowed service vehicle.  The lifting jack method allows the service technician more flexibility in transferring the service body on the job site or at a remote location where a forklift might not be available.  Using a crane to transfer the service body is the quickest and easiest method, however this method does require additional lifting tubes. No matter which transfer option you use, the transferable truck body will add valuable flexibility and cost savings to your service fleet.

Get Your Vehicle Summer Ready

Summer time is upon us. The hot summer sun, blowing dust and monsoons, combined with all the stop and go traffic, will really take a toll on your vehicle. Let’s not forget too, that you probably went all winter with probably doing very little or no maintenance. Regular vehicle maintenance not only reduces potential mechanical failures, but it increases the longevity and  resale value!

Here are some key things that should be checked:

  • Air Conditioning- Should be inspected by a qualified technician and have the cabin air filter replaced.
  • Cooling System- Should be flushed and refilled every 24 months. Never remove the radiator cap until the engine has thoroughly cooled! The condition and tightness of belts, clamps and hoses should also be checked by a professional.
  • Oil- Change the oil and oil filter regularly every 3,000.
  • Windshield Wipers- Replace worn wiper blades and fill windshield wiper fluid.
  • Lights- Inspect all lights and bulbs and replace burned out bulbs.
  • Tires- Check tire pressures once a month while they are cold. Don’t forget to check the spare as well and make sure the jack is in working order. Tires should be rotated about every 5,000 miles. Examine tires for tread life and uneven wearing which is a sign of poor alignment.
  • Brakes- Should be inspected as recommended in your manual, or sooner if you notice noises, grabbing, rubbing or problems with stopping distance.
  • Battery- Scrape away corrosion from posts and cable connections; clean all surfaces and re-tighten all connections. Check fluid levels on older batteries. Battery life is diminished in summer heat!
  • Emergency Box- Carry some basic tools, first aid kit, flares and a flashlight for emergencies. Additional items, such as, a blanket, water, granola bars, mobile USB charger, duct tape and matches are always good to have on hand. You never know where or how long you can be stranded!
Have a work truck? Get your work truck or fleet summer ready and store all your tools and emergency items in a Fleetwest Load'N'Go service body. Made from Heavy-Duty 16 ga. Steel yet still light enough to fit in 1/2 ton trucks. Call us toll-free in the U.S. for a quote today (866) 497-7200

Elite Fleets

What is an Elite Fleet? Elite Fleet is an honorary title given to the top fleet in The 100 Best Fleets in the Americas program. Elite Fleets lead the way in innovative and efficient fleet management. This title brings recognition from neighboring fleets as well as national organizations. Once given this title, the fleets are ineligible to compete again for the next five years. The winners of The 100 Best Fleets are announced and awarded at the NAFA I&E. The following is the top 10 of the 2017 100 Best Fleet winners:
  1.      City of Chesapeake, VA
  2.      City of Bellevue, WA
  3.      Alameda County, CA
  4.     San Luis Obispo County, CA
  5.     DeKalb County, GA
  6.     City of Riverside, CA
  7.     City of Durham, NC
  8.     City of Tempe, AZ
  9.     Hillsborough County, FL
  10.    The University of Texas at Austin, TX
Congratulations to our home town, the City of Tempe, for making the top ten!!

How does one become an Elite Fleet? Here are some tips from the experts, aka previous Best Fleet winners.

Maximize ROI
  • Maximizing the vehicle return on investment can provide revenue for upfitting fleet vehicles or purchasing new, innovative fleet technologies.
  • Having a large fleet means disposal of hundreds of vehicles annually. Creating a higher resale value can provide large savings.
  • Vehicle ROI needs to be considered during initial truck acquisition.
  • Small details such as adding a bed-liner to a pickup truck, tinting the windows in warmer climates, and picking a popular paint color such as white can increase resale value.
  • Bolt-on truck bodies damage both the pickup truck and the service body itself. Fleetwest offer slip-on models that won’t damage the vehicle and are easily removed for a higher resale value and maximized ROI.

Rightsizing a Fleet
  • Rightsizing a fleet can mean either increasing or decreasing the number of vehicles and drivers.
  • Using vehicles utilization studies can help determine an accurate number of trucks with maximum utilization.
  • Underused vehicles or equipment can be sold at auction to increase ROI.
  • Integrating transferable truck bodies into a fleet provides more versatility and eliminates the need to purchase more pickup trucks. Load’N’Go truck bodies can be removed from one truck to another when needed if the pickup truck is in the shop or a technician is out.
Load'N'Go Open Bed by Fleetwest
(shown on optional jacks)
Vehicle Maintenance
  • Many government fleets develop maintenance partnerships. This strategy works well for both the fleet and the partner because they can benefit from fleet services.
  • Investing in durable and secure fleet vehicles and service bodies can reduce overall maintenance costs. Fleetwest service bodies are easily transferred from on pickup truck bed to another, fully loaded, when it comes time for vehicle maintenance. This reduces downtime which in turn saves money.

Durashell 175 by Fleetwest
Go Green
  • Investing in a green fleet, when rightsizing or initially acquiring vehicles, initially saves money in fuel costs; and provides companies with an environmental stamp of approval.
  • Some organizations have invested in hiring a green fleet coordinator to advise on the best way to incorporate environmental technology into a fleet.
  • Goals can be set to reduce fleet petroleum fuel, carbon emissions, and overall environmental impact.
  • Lightweight vehicles require less fuel and reduce carbon emissions. Durashell service bodies are made of a lightweight fiberglass composite and can reduce fuel costs to create a greener fleet.

Accessories Make a Difference

Ladders and other long cargo items, such as pipes, can take up valuable storage space in a work truck. Simply adding a ladder rack to your service body makes a world of difference. It will optimize that storage space, create organization and make for a safer work environment.

#LoadNgo
Ladder Rack with Headache Rack shown on Load'N'Go Security Top

Benefits of adding a ladder rack:
  • Ladder racks provide the best angle to secure loads. Placing ladders or long material on top of your service body frees up storage space inside for parts and expensive cargo and equipment.
  • Accessibility is easier when ladders are securely stored on top of your work truck. Rather than moving tools and material to get to a ladder, simply take it down from atop.
  • Road safety is increased when ladders are stored on top the length of a pickup truck. When ladders stick out from the back of vehicles, accidents are more likely to occur; creating expensive accident or insurance costs for you and/or your fleet.
  • Easy accessibility to heavy materials, such as ladders, eliminates the risk of personal injury. Maneuvering heavy ladders can cause back injury. Having a secure ladder rack makes accessing these heavy materials easier and safer.

Fleetwest offers multiple styles from simple steel material racks to low profile hydraulic ladder racks. Hydraulic ladder racks further optimize convenience and security because of their drop-down feature that provides easier access to materials. Call toll free today at (866) 497-7200 for a quote on a ladder rack and Load’N’Go service body.

Benefits of Transferability

trans·fer’a·bil’i·tyv. the ability to move from one location to another

One of the biggest benefits of transferability is to reduce downtime when it comes to repair and maintenance. When the work truck needs to go into the shop for maintenance or repairs, the Fleetwest transferable truck body can quickly be moved to another truck in minutes. The downtime associated with a technician’s tools and equipment needing to be transferred to another truck is now all but eliminated. The technician doesn’t waste valuable time in the field hunting for tools that were tossed into a borrowed truck since he is still working from ‘his own assigned tool box’.

Not only is the company saving valuable work time but, the technician is spared the frustration of working out of a borrowed truck body and enjoys more job satisfaction knowing he will always have ‘his own assigned tool box’. Technicians are more likely to take pride in their tool box resulting in higher job satisfaction as well. They will be glad they never have to listen to their tools and equipment rolling around in the back of a van again!  Higher job satisfaction converts to long term savings for the company through higher personnel retention and lower expenses related to hiring and training new people.

Security of tools and equipment can save thousands of dollars by avoiding costly break-ins and theft from the open bed of a pick-up truck. Protecting your valuable cargo in a slip-on truck body makes so much financial sense. Double locking doors and side compartments provide the security you need to prevent the cost and downtime of losing valuable equipment and time associated with replacing them.

The Load'N'Go ST-2000 is secure, heavy-duty, and transferable, on and off a pickup truck in minutes allowing you to transfer your tools and supplies from one truck to another without unloading. It fits most standard model long-bed pick-up and light enough to fit 1/2 ton pick-up trucks. The Load'N'Go ST-2000 pictured needs no holes drilled to install and provides additional storage, flexibility, and efficiency allowing you to work smarter, not harder.

Not 1/2 Bad

Many industries have taken advantage of the benefits half ton trucks have to offer. Besides them being easier on the wallet to purchase, they are obviously lighter. The benefit of lighter trucks being increased fuel efficiency while reducing fuel costs. A half ton truck will cost you significantly less in gas than heavy duty pickups.

Now you don’t have to worry about not being able to efficiently store your tools on your half ton. Fleetwest has conquered this challenge with the lightweight ST-2000 and Sportsman models from the Load’N’Go line and all six Durashell models.

These models fulfill extensive storage and security needs for your valuable tools and equipment without sacrificing your trucks payload or fuel economy. They also can be transferred from truck to truck on the job site in minutes—even while fully loaded—and require no holes drilled-installation! All units are built to outlast multiple trucks and available in standard 8' bed and 6.5' bed applications.
